Nuclear power makes up more than 70 percent of Entergy Arkansas’ fuel mix, yet research indicated that a majority of the company’s customers were unaware of the Arkansas Nuclear One’s impact to the state and on lower electricity prices.  Taking advantage of ANO’s 35th anniversary, nuclear communications spearheaded a year-long celebration as a way to build relationships with local and state leaders while showcasing the plant and its accomplishments to statewide media outlets. The launch featured presentations by key state leaders, including Public Service Commissioner Paul Suskie, Arkansas state representative Andrea Lea and Entergy Arkansas President and CEO Hugh McDonald. Miss Arkansas Sarah Slocum sang the National Anthem, and a video produced by nuclear communications highlighted the benefits of ANO to Entergy Arkansas customers. The “Arkansas Nuclear One: 35 Powerful Years” video received a Hermes Creative Gold Award. More importantly, the initiative positively impacted perceptions of nuclear energy in the state and Entergy’s commitment to provide clean, affordable power.
