Move to MISO (Midcontinent Independent System Operator) involves Entergy’s decision to change the operations of its transmission organization. Restructuring Entergy’s transmission business was a key strategic initiative for the organization; success was critical to customer service, reliability, customer cost savings and financial performance of the company. Success would require discrete regulatory approvals in six different jurisdictions—failure in any one might jeopardize the entire initiative. Filings were made in six separate regulatory jurisdictions essentially requiring six separate communications plans that emphasized short- and long-term customer benefits, addressed concerns of opponents and helped build understanding, trust and acceptance across multiple audiences. Despite significant early opposition from other industry players and even commission staffs, we won regulatory approval in all jurisdictions.
