Remember the Reasons was a safety-awareness campaign for Entergy’s utility employees. Focus groups revealed that while employees understood the need for a strong safety culture, there was a perception that leadership did not actually care about worker safety beyond departmental measurements and incentives. It was time to position safety as a personal choice with very personal consequences. A video featured employees explaining their reasons for working safely, such as spending time with their families and enjoying a favorite hobby. Safety meetings, videos, posters and bulletin board campaigns drove the message throughout. Not only did employees embrace the safety message but lost-time accidents dropped significantly, prompting Entergy to adopt Remember the Reasons companywide in 10 states.
